Camp Costs

Camp Waldo believes in access to camp! That’s why we use a sliding scale based on family income to determine fees for each camper. Camp Waldo is a nonprofit camp, and even families at the top of the sliding scale pay much less than the actual cost per camper. Most of Camp Waldo’s costs are covered by outside funding through grants
and donations.

We offer flexible payment plans during the registration process. If you would like to discuss financial assistance, please contact Kevin Johnson

FAQs

What does Camp Waldo cost?

Camp Waldo believes in access to camp! That’s why we use a sliding scale (see our application page). These fees currently only cover 15% of our operating cost, with the rest being covered by private funding. We accept payment plans for these fees if you cannot make a one-time payment. We also offer limited financial assistance; information on how to apply for this is within our Camper Registration.

What happens if my camper's birthday occurs while they are at camp?

We love to celebrate birthdays at Waldo and will make sure that your camper feels
loved and celebrated throughout their birthday and beyond.

How do you handle dietary restrictions?

We take dietary restrictions very seriously and want to make sure every camper is served in an equal way. All dietary restrictions should be noted on the camper application and registration forms and will be communicated to the head counselors, directors, your child’s individual counselors, and the kitchen staff.

What are the camper cabin facilities like?

Our cabins are recently renovated and very nice. They are divided into two large rooms, with each half housing four–six campers and one counselor. Each half of the cabin has its own private bathroom with a toilet and a shower.

What is the food like?

We pride ourselves on our food at Camp Waldo. We offer three vegetarian meals a day as well as a snack every day in the afternoon. A good portion of the food we eat comes from our own gardens on the camp property. All meals are prepared under the direction of Al Pettijohn, a local chef who graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and who has worked at fantastic restaurants across the country.

What happens if my child gets homesick?

It is important to let your child know that homesickness is real and that they might get it.
Please know that the Camp Waldo staff is trained in techniques to handle homesickness and address it on an individual basis. In almost all cases homesickness will not warrant a phone call from the camp administrative staff; however, our camp administrative staff
is dedicated to keeping families updated if homesickness is consistent.

Can I send packages to my camper?

We do not allow families to mail packages to campers. There may be a certain instance where mailing your camper is warranted; however, all camper mail larger than an envelope is subject to search by our camp administrative staff.

Can my camper bring their phone to camp?

We do not allow campers to bring cell phones or any other similar electronic devices to
camp. We invite our camp community into a time of technological rest as they enjoy the camp community and the great outdoors.
