WV Gazette-Mail: Explore the Mammoth Preserve restoration site

Come see our biggest mined land reforestation project, the Mammoth Preserve! Join our partner, the West Virginia Land Trust, to explore the ongoing restoration project through a guided hike.

Spanning approximately 5,000 acres and located on a former surface mine site midway between Charleston and Beckley, the Mammoth property is now the Land Trust’s largest preserve and offers opportunities for outdoor recreation and tourism development in the Kanawha Valley. This project was once a surface mine restored by Appalachia Headwaters over the last several years.
