Appalachian Headwaters

Field Trips and School Programs

Appalachian Headwaters hosts field trips to our Greenbrier Valley field sites year round, and provides direct programming in schools.

Appalachian Headwaters also conducts trainings for teachers and other education providers.

Book A Program With Us!

We provide engaging, in-person programs year-round in the Greenbrier Valley and adjacent counties of southern WV. Our education staff has decades of experience with diverse youth and youth-inclusive groups. Our staff are Project WET, WILD and Learning Tree certified, and WV Master Naturalists.

Let us know how we can work with you!

Level-specific WV CSOs and NGSS standards are identified for all of our programs.

World of Pollinators: Bees and Beyond!

This program explores the life cycles of our native pollinators and the critical role they play in our environment. Program includes pollinator sampling in a wild habitat area, depending on season.

Going Wild for Plants

This program digs into WV’s astonishing diversity of native plants, and what they provide us. Program can include a tour of Headwaters’ native plant nursery or a plant survey in a nearby habitat.

WV Watershed Explorers

Explore how water shapes our landscape and nourishes our communities. Program includes watershed basics and aquatic macroinvertebrate sampling.

Outdoor Survival Challenge

Working as a team, use your wildlife smarts, observation skills and Leave No Trace principles to complete a creative, multidisciplinary challenge course! Challenge elements and difficulty is tailored to each group.

Teacher Training Opportunities

Headwaters staff hold a variety of standards-based, experiential teacher trainings throughout the year. Past trainings have focused on outdoor curricula such as Project WET, Project Learning Tree and My Backyard Climate. Interested? Reach out to our Education Director at kjohnson@appheadwaters.org.
