Restoring Mined Land
Appalachian Headwaters is working with scientists and local partners to restore diverse native forests and to improve water quality on former mountaintop removal mines and on other large-scale surface mine sites in our region.
We are restoring thousands of acres of formerly mined land in West Virginia. Some of our partners include the United States Forest Service, the West Virginia Land Trust, Alpha Metallurgical Resources, and Green Forests Work. All of this land will be open for public use in perpetuity.
